RCI Australia Statement on the Colonial Elections in Gilgit-Baltistan

The upcoming 7th June elections in Gilgit-Baltistan are not elections. They are a controlled circus organised under the shadow of the military bureaucracy and the Pakistani ruling class. For decades, Gilgit-Baltistan has been treated like a colony, where mountains, rivers and minerals, and land are looted while the local population is left with poverty, unemployment, forced silence and political repression.

Every few years, the same puppet parties come with new slogans and fake promises, only to serve Islamabad’s generals, bureaucrats, contractors, and capitalist elites. These assemblies have never belonged to the people of Gilgit-Baltistan. They exist to protect the system of exploitation and to legalise the theft of the peoples’ resources.

The imprisonment of Comrade Ehsan Ali, despite his worsening health, exposes the true face of this state. Anyone who raises a voice for the oppressed, against corruption and colonial domination, is threated, jailed, or silenced. This is not democracy. This is naked political repression.

The comrades of the Revolutionary Communist Party in Gilgit-Baltistan have rightly boycotted this fraud. We refuse to give legitimacy to a system where results are engineered before votes are even cast. History has repeatedly shown that these elections change faces, not the conditions of ordinary people.

RCI Australia stands firmly with the comrades of RCP, with imprisoned activists, and with the workers, youth, peasants, and poor masses of Gilgit-Baltistan. We call upon the people to reject this deceptive electoral drama and begin organising independently in every town, village, university, and workplace.

Do not trust the puppets of the ruling class.

Do not trust the generals who occupy your land.

Do not trust the politicians who sell your future.

The only path forward is organised mass struggle against colonial oppression and capitalist exploitation. Build committees of ordinary working people. Unite the youth, workers, students, and poor. In every country, we must tear down this rotten colonial structure and fight for a real people’s assembly under the leadership of the working class.

No liberation will come from fake ballot boxes controlled by the elite.

Real change will come from organised revolutionary struggle.

Wokers of the world, unite!
